I bought a high quality version of Charli XCX’s latest album Wuthering Heights on ProStudioMasters. I was a little nervous about the cover and thinking she was going to jam pack it full of my pet peeves. The set starts off with what sounds like an audio book and establishes a kind of trust in the classic UK vibe. It’s strange after her major success on the charts with brat that there are so many strings in it competing for the eloquence of her in that cute voice. On the first listen towards the end, it was refreshing to hear Sky Ferreira. I remember when both these artists came out with their first releases that were the ones that got them a popular start and then I kind of lost the attachment for a while. Wikipedia lists this as being made as a soundtrack, however the work stands alone as an album with clear themes. I thought she was faking it though and felt a bit empty with some of the lyrics. She was always so real and wondered if this was under too much of a pressure in time for the screen. So number ten was probably the best song at first and then My Reminder challenged that until Funny Mouth ended it leaving us wanting more. I’m listening to it again now while typing and doing some other things to understand what the whole battle of the sound is going on with Charli versus the future. Definitely not sure if she is deeply in love or disappointed in something, however feels stronger for the long term.
